Programs

Our signature program brings adult musicians together in a low pressure environment to rehearse, grow, and perform as a jazz ensemble. 

During this 16 week program you'll:

• Receive hands on instruction from a pro jazz musician. 
• Learn 4-6 standard jazz tunes from The Real Book (sheet music provided). 
• Experience improvising with a jazz ensemble, learning how to communicate with your band mates onstage like a pro.
• Get the opportunity to arrange and add your own flare to the jazz classics.
• have an endlessly supportive environment to try, fail, try again, and inevitably grow your jazz talents.
• Enjoy eight 2-hour rehearsals and a live performance 

Jazz Labs meets every other Saturday from 2 - 4 p.m. and every other Wednesday from 6 - 9 p.m. at the Mutual Musicians Foundation. 

Cost: $150 per Month

Designed for the next generation of jazz musicians, the Next Gen Jazz Lab helps young players gain confidence, skills, and community through ensemble playing. 

For students ages 14-18, Next Gen Jazz Lab offers:

• The chance to learn jazz, hip‑hop, soul, and music production from pro musicians. 
• A chance to try out instruments and studio tools.
• Build real-world musicianship and teamwork.
• Join a community of young artists.

This program is totally free and open to all skill levels—but spots are limited. 

Beyond ensembles, Jazz Lab KC offers one-off workshops and clinics led by Kansas City’s finest jazz musicians. Our most workshops have been part of our Vocal Workshop Series led by the incredible Kara Smith. 

• Workshop topics could include vocals, improvisation, rhythm section skills, jazz history, arranging, and more. 
•  A great way to dive deeper into a specific skill or experience Jazz Lab without a full session commitment. 
• Offered throughout the year — open to both Jazz Lab participants and the broader community. 

Cost varies based on the Workshop.
